The timeline for our computer lab project began in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 lockdown. Construction of the standalone building was already underway, with only a few months remaining until completion. However, there were still some funds that needed to be raised in order to purchase the necessary equipment for a fully equipped computer center.
As we entered 2020, our school had also constructed a new high school building, which was intended to accommodate our newest level of Grade 10 classes. Little did we know what was about to unfold within just two months into the year. Alongside the numerous other impacts caused by the global pandemic, our aspirations of offering computer literacy as a subject to our learners once again remained a distant dream. This was due to the reallocation of funds from the school budget and fundraising efforts to ensure the safe reopening of the school ahead of many other schools in Gauteng, as well as safeguarding the health and well-being of our learners.
Nevertheless, with patience and unwavering support from our loyal CAP Parents, who continued to pay school fees even during those financially uncertain times, we were able to create a new budget to resume the construction and completion of our computer lab. Shortly thereafter, our CAP Family at Air Products Pty Ltd, a global energy company in Kempton Park, generously sponsored our project. Upon accepting our funding proposal, the Air Products team and management delivered 21 Lenovo computers, along with a much-needed photocopy machine to the school. This contribution paved the way for the finalization and official opening of our Computer Lab in 2022.
We consider ourselves truly fortunate to have crossed paths with such remarkable individuals and their company. Moreover, we are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our parent community during this challenging period. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all and express our commitment to building upon the trust you have placed in Child Academy as we continue to foster the potential within our learners.
